Momentum Energy is a 100% Aussie energy company owned by Hydro Tasmania, one of Australia's largest renewable energy generators. Momentum Energy claims that Hydro Tasmania generates hydropower equivalent to roughly double the amount of electricity its customers use each year.
Momentum Energy offers two plans in every state, ‘Nothing Fancy’ and ‘Suit Yourself’. The former is cheaper than the latter due to fewer available features, which is detailed further in this review.

Momentum Energy offers GreenPower to its customers. Those with the ‘Suit Yourself’ plan get 10% GreenPower free.
Those interested in buying 100% GreenPower with the ‘Nothing Fancy’ plan can do so at 4.95¢/kWh.
Momentum Energy offers solar feed-in tariffs at the following rates:
VIC: 5.40¢/kWh
NSW: 7¢/kWh
QLD: 4.5¢/kWh
SA: 3.5¢/kWh
Momentum Energy is paper-free and only offers e-billing.
The ‘Nothing Fancy’ plan can only be paid via direct debit.
The ‘Suit Yourself’ plan allows payment with more methods such as bank transfer, BPay, direct debit, credit card, mail, phone or CentrePay.
Momentum Energy allows payment with a tool called SmoothPay which claims to help avoid bill shock. It calculates your estimated annual energy bill and splits it into even payments that you can pay at a frequency of your choice.
Momentum Energy allows you to manage your plan online by logging in to your account on its website.
Momentum has a feature called ‘Power Tool’ that gives you a view into your electricity usage in weekly, daily and half-hourly chunks, the costs, and your solar export.
You can also choose to receive a weekly Power Tool newsletter which will give you a summary of your electricity usage along with insight into how the weather could be impacting your usage and the amount of power you used overnight.
